It’s time to tickle your taste buds with the best of fiery regional Indian cuisines! Check out some scrumptious food from the spiciest region in the country – Andhra!!
Andhra food fest is being held currently at Spice Jar, The Residency. The 70+ seater done up in bright yellow, had a small hut with a Bullock cart on one corner and a mini pottikadai setting on the other, adding a touch of the ongoing festival.
The lavish spread consisted of some authentic and mouth-watering delicacies such as Chepala Pulusu (fish in tangy sauce), Thottakura Mamsam (mutton with amaranth leaves), Warangal Kodi Kura (the Andhra version of pepper chicken). Lipsmackingly delicious!
The vegetarian selections offered a wide repertoire of choices such as mungakai pilusu (drumstick in red sauce), bangala vepudu (stir fried potatoes), dondakaya kobari (gherkins cooked with coconut), mamadikaya pappu (lentils infused with mango). Tongue tickling good!!
The famous Andhra chicken pulao & the all time favorite Pulihora (the tamarind rice) and Mutton Biryani were brilliant.
The live counter serves pesarattu (dosa made with green gram with diced onions as a filling) served with ginger chutney; also the perugu vadulu is a different vada preparation since the vada is not soaked in water but directly into beaten curd.
The Andhra Chili Chicken lives up to its name, tossed in chili paste and served piping hot, it was brilliant and went well with the rice and gravies.
An Andhra meal is never complete without the mango pickle, podis & dosakai pachadi, the gongura chutney; combined with fragrant rice and a spoonful of ghee. Yumm!
Coming to the desserts – we were spoilt for choices. We had Kobbari Pappu Paysam, Bellam Pongali, Paalakova & Gummidikaya Payasam to choose from. The paalakova stole the show.
