Just when I thought I had tried them all. Cafe Mercara Express comes out with a new menu…
Cafe Mercara Express is a all day Diner at ITC GRAND CHOLA. The first of its kind to collaborate with WWF India to bring forth the concept of “choose wisely”. It aims to raise awareness of the heavy exploitation of endangered fish resourse and to provide consumer with season choices that avoid overexploited spices.
Caringly selected, mindfully prepared.. the new menu has been carefully curated with more healthier options from various cuisines.
Chef Nikhil Merchant ran us through the menu course by course and it was a very fulfilling and satisfying meal.
What we tried and loved, a brief:
Detoxifier : A divine combination of apple, carrots and ginger.
Cleanser : A velvety smooth and delicious drink made with watermelon, beetroot and mint. It was brilliant.
BNatural Jamun with Mint Muddle : Jamun blended with a hint of mint, delicious.
Tulsi Seed & Indian Summer Fruit Muesli : Listed under the breakfast part of the menu, it was served with whipped orange cinnamon yogurt and topped with chopped fresh fruits. Sweetishly tangy, rich and delicious, it’s was refreshing.
Crusty Bread: A small loaf of multigrain bread served with the Green Goddess Dip. The dip made with chilli, mint, cream cheese and bread crumbs was delicious. Smooth, spicy and plain perfect.
Carrot & Coconut Puree: A rich and creamy soup served with carrot paper and basil croutons. Delicious.
Burrata & Beet:
A rich and creamy Buratta served on a beautiful palate of roasted capsicum sauces garnished with orange slivers, pickled beetroot, balsamic vinegar, sea salt, parsley drizzle and mesclun greens. Art on a palate. Scrumptious.
Quinoa Shakarkandi kebab : Roasted sweet potato and raw mango kebabs. Not very impressive.
Vazhaipoo Cutlets : Deep fried banana Flower cutlets flavored with local spices. Perfect snack material!
Asian Shrimp fritters : Fresh Jumbo Shrimps wrapped in Nori sheets and batter fried. Not for me.
Brie En Croute : A chunk of Brie layered with caramelized onions and wrapped in puff pastry, served with asparagus spears, snow peas and wine soaked grapes. Delicious. The cheese was gooey and along with the caramelized onions, it was plain irresistible. The grapes only added more flavors.
Chicken Soltado : Peruvian stir-fried chicken along with potatoes, capsicum, onions and served along with rice. Rich in flavors and delicious.
Uralaichery, Tomato pappu and Melagu Kozhi Chettinadu were served along with Idiyappam and Malabar patottas. The gravies were rich in flavors and went will with the breads.
Milk Chocolate Parfait With Raspberry Sorbet: A uniquely curated dessert. The raspberry sorbet was tangy and the parfait topped with chocolate sauce spelt comfort. Yum!
The menu covers everything from local love to world cuisines…The fabulously curated menu, added to the existing luxury of the restaurant, only increases its irresistibility..
Something for everyone, a lot for me!
